John Connors
John joins us from Clark University Geography Department where he worked on land-use mapping and map comparison methods, specifically object-based and fuzzy classification. He will be working on the Methane, the SNAMP and the OakMapper projects.

Ellen Kersten
Ellen joins us from the UC Berkeley School of Public Health where she worked as a research associate for a study on the health effects of restaurant access in rural areas. She also worked for the Greenlining Institute researching health and housing issues in California's Central Valley. Ellen graduated from UCLA in 2006 with a B.A. in Geography and Political Science and enjoys exploring the outdoors of the Bay Area and beyond. She will be working on the Our Space project.

Carlin Starrs
Carlin is our undergrad assistant. She is working on a number of small projects, including endnote, filing and slide scanning, but we are fully confident that she will come around to loving GIS like the rest of us. Carlin is a CNR undergrad. She has raised goats, is an avid skiier, and is in the Cal Band.

Postdoctoral Scholars

Oliver Sonnentag
Oliver has joined us and is working on the Methane in the Delta project. Oliver received his PhD from the University of Toronto, Department of Geography and Planning. Oliver's dissertation under the supervision of Prof. Jing Chen focused on peatland hydrology and carbon cycle modelling in a remote sensing-driven modelling framework. His first degree was a Master's degree in Applied Geology from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. Following a stint as a GIS technician and consultant for a surveying company, he pursued a postgraduate Master's degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) at the University of Salzburg, Austria.

Allen DiVittorio
Allen will be working on the Biofuels project begining in July. He will be primarily based at LBL with Norm Miller, but will be co-located in the GIIF and will participate in Kellylab activities. Allen's dissertation focuses on leaf-level spectrometry and forest ecology.
